RAFEIK Thomas scored a rasping hattrick of goals against Red Stripe Premier League leaders Montego Bay United to give Boys’ Town 3-0 win at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

With Boys’ Town still harbouring ambitious ideas of getting into the top four, they set about tearing the leaders to shreds with some direct plays. However, success was delayed until the 40th minute when Michael Campbell found Asrick Samuels with a pass on the right.

Samuels then centred the ball to Thomas who then rolled the ball low to the top corner of the goal to evade the outstretch hands of goalkeeper Jacomeno Barretts.

Thomas then ran through the Montego Bay defence on the stroke of half-time to log his second goal for Boys’ Town. During the time the goals were scored, Montego Bay were down to 10 men following an injury to the shanks of Mauricio Gordon. He was, however, replaced by Dino Williams for the second session.

Boys’ Town continued to show great presence of mind as they continued from where they left off in the first half. And on 63 minutes, Thomas was again on target with another low shot to beat Barrett.

It was not until the third goal that Montego Bay United showed some readiness for the contest, but went down to 10 players for the final 10 minutes following the expulsion of midfielder Graham Green by referee Dwight Royal for violent conduct in a off-theball incident.

It was the second consecutive defeat for Montego Bay United, which prompted coach Hugh Solomon to reflect. “Losing is part of competing, but the manner in which we lost, was not a true representation of our quality. With such a shoddy display, this is one of those games that we will have to quickly put behind us,” he said.

Boys’ Town’s coach Andrew Price was delighted with the manner in which his team dispatched the league leaders.

“Three goals against the leaders is quite a good performance… we had to come out here and show that

we can still play good football,” he said.
