Deejay Klaryti steps from the shadows
UP-AND-COMING deejay Klaryti is stepping out of his older brother’s shadow to carve a name for himself as one of dancehall’s elite.
In his mid-20s, Klaryti is the younger brother of Red Rat.
“Mi badda than Red Rat lyrically. It’s just that the world doesn’t know it yet. And when that happens he will be in my shadow,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Klaryti said he is encouraged by his two singles Thank You Mama and Pray Fi Dem, which were produced on his Red Dirt Label and released late last year.
“I will be shooting a medley video for both songs this month to give people visuals and boost my presence in the marketplace. It’s just like any business. It is all in how you promote. Let the people decide if you have a great product or not,” he said.
Klaryti (given name Troy Wilson) is from the Garden parish of St Ann. He made his name in dancehall circles as a drummer since the mid-2000s and worked for several artistes including Degree, Cecile and Mr Lex. “I have always been an artiste even when I was drumming for all the artistes.
At the time, the higher demand was for me to be a drummer, but I was still recording my music and doing production, so if you think about it I have always been an artiste from the start… This is something that I’ve always wanted to pursue, but I never had the opportunity or the time. That time is now,” he said.
