Truck driver faces court for J$10m in stolen cigarettes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Forty-five-year-old truck driver Garfield Senior, who was arrested for conspiracy and possession of uncustomed goods, will on Wednesday, April 2, appear in the Half Way Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Reports are that about 9:16 am on Thursday, March 20, a trans-shipment container from Singapore, destined for Brazil, was broken into at the Kingston Container Terminal (KCT) and 50 boxes of uncustomed cigarettes and other items were allegedly removed. The cigarettes are reportedly valued at J$10 million.
The police subsequently launched an investigation and a bus containing the boxes of cigarettes was later spotted in the Greenwich Farm Community and Senior arrested.
Senior is from Longsville Park in Clarendon.
