Wadadah put it all on the line today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Wadadah FC’s semi-finals hopes will be on the line this afternoon when they host Reno FC in a return-round Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League game at the UDC field.
It will be a crucial game for both teams that have not had things their way over the last two rounds, but while Reno FC are just a point away from top-four qualification, the situation is crucial for the defending champions.
Wadadah FC are on 33 points and in sixth place and must beat Reno FC today if they are to have any hopes of booking a fourth straight semi-final place and extend the defence of their title.
The St James team have earned just one point from their last two games, a 0-0 draw with relegation-threatened Montego Bay Boys Club after losing to Granville United and must turn their form around if they are to continue past the regular season.
Reno FC, on the other hand, are on 39 points and need only a point to secure their place in the semi-final, joining leaders Savannah SC to continue their quest to be the first team to win both mid-season and overall titles in the same season.
Reno are coming off back-to-back losses themselves and will be eager to get back to winning ways as they head into the semi-finals.
Also today, Granville United will hope to consolidate their position in third place when they take on Lucea FC at the Granville Community Centre, seeking a fourth straight win, while Village United and Montego Bay Boys Club will continue their quest to avoid relegation when they meet at Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Lucea FC, Village United and Boys Club are in danger of joining Norwood Strikers and Duanvale FC as the four teams that will be demoted at the end of the season.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Savannah SC increased their lead over Reno FC to five points after a 2-2 draw with Sandals Whitehouse at Frome.
Savannah SC twice gave up the lead as Sandals Whitehouse, who are also hunting a semi-final place, fought their way back to earn a point, keeping them in fourth place.
