Transport Minister tours JUTC depots
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Transport Dr Omar Davies on a tour of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Spanish Town Depot Tuesday morning spoke with workers, mostly drivers, about their responsibilities under the new sub-franchise regime.
Davies is scheduled to tour the JUTC’s Portmore Depot on Wednesday and the Rockfort east Kingston Depot on Thursday.
The JUTC, responsible for public transportation in the Kingston Metropolitan region, effective April 1 reclaimed numerous sub-franchise routes from minibus operators. The state-owned bus company instituted new procedures for the remaining operators including an increase in fees and the stipulation that all minibuses be repainted the JUTC yellow.
Numerous JUTC buses have come under attack since the beginning of April.
