Revamped South Central Super League continues today
MAY PEN, Clarendon — The new-look South Central Confederation Super League, which began yesterday, continues today with a full schedule across three parishes.
In St Elizabeth, Newell will host Jamalco at Hounslow, while over in Manchester, Brooks Parks will be the venue for the New Green-Black Stars match-up.
Alligator Pond will play away to DB Basovak at the Homestead Community Centre, St Catherine, in the day’s other encounter.
All games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
The competition got under way yesterday in central Clarendon where Treadlight hosted Newlands at the Effortville Community Centre.
Unlike previous years, this edition of the Super League will take the form of a play-off — featuring eight teams, instead of the usual 12, from the Confederation’s four parish associations.
Those eight teams — two from each parish — will be placed in two zones of four, playing each other on a home-and-away basis. At the end of this preliminary phase, the top two sides from each zone will contest the semi-finals.
The eventual winner of the play-off will go on to represent South Central in the National Premier League play-off.
The decision to restructure the region’s top football competition was announced last year by the executive body of the South Central Confederation, who cited lack of sponsorship and general public support. It is hoped that this shortened and ‘inexpensive’ version of the Super League will be more exciting.
Zone A: Alligator Pond, DB Basovak, Jamalco, Newell.
Zone B: Black Stars, New Green, Newlands, Treadlight.
