Georgina Surgeon rides first winner after injury
ST. CATHERINE, Jamaica – Jamaica’s only female jockey, Georgina Sergeon rode her first winner a short while ago at Caymanas Park after returning to race riding in February following an absence of over a year after falling from a horse and being badly injured.
Sergeon piloted the Harry Parsard trained Love Train to victory in the day’s feature event, the Starters’ Trophy which signalled the start of the two-year-old juvenile season at Caymanas Park.
Sergeon said after the win that it felt so good to be in the winners’ enclosure again. “It has finally happened. The long wait, the pain I experienced, and the hard, hard work has finally paid off for me,” she said.
