KINGSTON, Jamaica — It has become the norm for artistes to be labelled and identified with a particular music genre. Not so with Honorebel, the South Florida singjay who refuses to be stereotyped.

He maintains that trend on his latest song, the aptly titled ‘UFO’ which drops May 6 on Phantom Music Group/ Zojak Worldwide.

Produced by Danish musician Chris Sane, UFO is a roots-reggae number which hears Honorebel relating his journey as a crossover artiste.

He says being conventional has never appealed to him.

“It’s very challenging to do different genres of music; it’s a way of keeping things balanced and the fans happy. I like it because as an artiste you can never be bored, but in order to stay relevant and current you have to research and know what’s popping in each genre,” Honorebel told OBSERVER ONLINE.

That willingness to experiment has paid dividends for the St Andrew-born artiste who has worked with some of the respected names in the competitive South Florida music scene.

They include reggae producer Willie Lindo, Luther ‘Luke’ Campbell of (rap group) 2 Live Crew fame and platinum-selling rapper Pitbull.

‘Now You See It’, his collaboration with Pitbull and Jumpsmokers, made Billboard’s Top 100 Dance Chart and Top 200 House Chart, in 2009.

He also had a hit song in Russia with Sorry, which was done with Miss Russia Universe, Julia Kova. The success of the song in that country won him a slot as performer on the Moscow MTV Music Awards.

As part of the promotion for UFO, a video directed by Shadrac Milhomme, has been released.
