Two men held for St Elizabeth weekend murders
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – The St Elizabeth police say they have taken two men into custody in relation to the murders of a 24 year-old woman and a 61 year-old man on the weekend.
“We are making progress and expect to be able to press charges soon,” a senior investigator told OBSERVER ONLINE Thursday.
Early Sunday the body of 61 year-old Leroy Lee of Barton Isle district in northwest St Elizabeth was found at Lease Land in the community by residents returning from a wake, which Lee had also attended.
Police say the victim’s head was bashed in and a large stone believed to be murder weapon was found nearby.
Hours later, the body of Marvia Thomas of Thornton was found close to a waterway in bushes at Luana, close to Black River in the parish’s southwest. Police say Thomas’s body had multiple stab wounds.
There were tyre tracks leading to and from the body, police say. Investigators believe that Thomas was killed elsewhere.
The death of Thomas and Lee brought the murder toll in St Elizabeth to 12 compared to 10 for the same period last year.
