Career Walk: Social Media Coordinator
Hello again. Welcome to another instalment of Career Walk. This week we will be looking at the new age profession of social media coordinator.
The phenomenon of social media has virtually (pun intended) transformed the way people across the globe communicate and share information. If you think about it, social media platforms have become virtual extensions of our physical lives. This goes without saying, but have you ever wondered who have been working beyond our laptop and phone screens?
Maybe we have become so accustomed to the ease and convenience of using platforms such as Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest, and interacting with the content posted that we have taken it for granted that these platforms have to be monitored, upgraded, and supervised so that we can be satisfied with what we see. This is the job of social media coordinators.
Believe it or not, their job is not just about lounging around on Facebook and posting random information. On a much grander scale, social media coordinators have to prepare content for blogs and promotional posts for social networks.
It gets a bit more technical. They also have to measure and analyse social media engagements. This information is collated and put into reports which are then used to draw insight from, for example, determining what content draws the most traffic to a particular site and by extension, keeping the clients satisfied.
This profession was listed under one of the fastest growing industries in Jamaica, information and communication technology. This means that social media coordinating is a skill area on demand in the job market and will be for years to come.
If you are a sociable individual, who has an interest in writing and maybe also an interest in technology, becoming a social media coordinator might be a viable option.
Till next time, all the best in choosing the right career for you.
