Marshall’s money on Argentina
Deejay Wayne Marshall is seeing blue this World Cup… the light blue of South American football powerhouse Argentina, the team he expects to lift the trophy following the final on July 13.
But Marshall, whose track Stupid Money — a collaboration with fellow deejay Agent Sasco (Assassin) — remains popular on the party circuit, knows it will not be easy for his team.
“Yo!” He bursts out laughing. “My heart says Argentina, but my brain is telling me Brazil.” Marshall continues, “As a squad, I believe Argentina is hungry for the trophy. Plus, they have the best player around right now, in my opinion — Lionel Messi. It’s a squad that can do it, and because they are not in the spotlight it’s a great opportunity for them to just do what has to be done and sneak in the win.”
However, Marshall accepts the fact that Brazil is playing at home and that could spur them to victory.
“Brazil will be playing with 12 men… you have to count that home support as an extra man on the field. This can boost any team, and Brazil already has a confident team. But ball roun’ and can roll ina any net,” he adds.
Marshall says he grew up surrounded by football fanatics and recalls the first World Cup he watched: the 1986 tournament in Mexico.
“I would have been very young then, but I definitely remember the excitement in my house and recall seeing Brazil’s Dr Socrates on the field.”
Argentina, who have won the World Cup twice (1978 and 1986), are drawn in Group F alongside Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran and Nigeria.
