signs a partnership agreement with Monica Escalane, Commercial Manager of Philips Lighting, to flood the local market with new Philips lighting fixtures and LED bulbs aimed at reducing the country’s energy consumption and the amount of oil imported annually. Speaking at the May 21 event at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Minister of State in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Julian Robinson lamented the country’s $2.2-billion spend on oil importation last year, a figure which represents 15 per cent of Gross Domestic Product, and urged conservation as a means of reducing the bill.
