Three sentenced for lottery scamming
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth – Three individuals were sentenced in the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court yesterday for Breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act 2013.
Nineteen-year-old Tafarie Haddad and 36-year-old Denise Sutherland, both unemployed of Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth pleaded guilty to Aiding and Abetting the Commission of an Offence Contrary to Section (12) of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act 2013 and were sentenced to two years and three years hard labour respectively.
A minor was also sentenced to three years probation for the offence of Knowingly Possessing Identity Information. His name is however being withheld.
Reports are that on Friday, November 29, 2013 about 5:00 am, a team of Police officers searched a premises in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, when a book containing the names, addresses, phone numbers and social security numbers of persons living in the United States of America and Western Union and MoneyGram receipts were found.
This brings to 11 the number of persons convicted in the parish of St. Elizabeth since June.
