HIGH-END fashion, fast cars, ‘flossing’, and dancehall music was all the rage at the Guinness-sponsored Weddy Weddy 10th anniversary on Burlington Avenue in St Andrew on Wednesday night.

By midnight, the parking lots to the venue had reached their capacity, while dozens of vehicles perched on nearby sidewalks. On the outside, the party was in full swing as dozens of patrons danced in the streets.

On the inside, there was barely any space for movement as hundreds of party-goers crammed inside Stone Love Headquarters. This however, didn’t prevent dancers from groups including Sample Six, Bermuda and Shady Squad from displaying ‘wicked’ moves much to the delight of their audience.

For others, it was all about sipping champagne.

Dancehall artiste Elephant Man had high praises for Stone Love’s CEO Winston ‘Wee Pow’ Powell.

“Wee Pow is the founder of the first ‘endz’ where everyone got real dancehall music. Weddy Weddy is where everyone get real dancehall music without the slackness and profanity,” he said.

“Tonight reminds me of Weddy Weddy’s second anniversary where John Hype, Bogle and all the other dancers just took the dance floor for themselves, it was crazy,” the deejay added.

Dancehall personality Lena British spoke of Weddy Weddy in glowing terms.

“It isn’t just about having fun but the Stone Love team have always helped people and give back to the community. This is the place that was instrumental in me being where I am today. Coming here weekly, gives me lots of exposure because Weddy Weddy attracts persons from all over,” she said.

Splash caught up with 71-year-old dancer Earl ‘Labba Labba’ O’Conner, who was showing off his version of Bogle dance.

“When Bogle was alive the vibes was good. People use to come from all over the world to see us dance. There was no division or fuss. On a Wednesday, we used to be here then on a Friday we travel to Jungle for Bogle’s party called Jiggy Jiggy,” he said.

Taking the Spalsh team down memory lane, the dancer said he made his first music video appearance at the age of 62 years old in Bling Dawg’s Zip it Up.

The anniversary staging saw the crowning of Miss Weddy Weddy which went to Baby Vain, while the Bogle Award went to dancer Kullu Kullu. Linkage Radio also gave a Special award to Stone Love’s Winston ‘Wee Pow’ Powell for his weekly contribution to Weddy Weddy.

The party vibe continued until the wee hours of Thursday morning. The crowd were entertained with live performances from acts including Kiprich, Romain Virgo, Teflon, Quick Cook, and Nesbeth.
