Reggae Girlz given boost by ambassador Marley
IN continuation of her commitment as global ambassador for the women’s football programme in Jamaica, Cedella Marley has organised and secured funding for a training camp for the senior Reggae Girlz in Miami.
The camp, which began on Sunday, will assist the Girlz in preparation ahead of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Final qualification tournament for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015, which will take place in Trinidad & Tobago.
Marley, who is also the chief executive officer of the Bob Marley Group of companies, launched the initiative through which Florida State Senator Dwight Bullard’s office has arranged for the team to train at Miami Dade College — Kendall campus.
The team will be allowed extensive use of the fields and training rooms, while being accommodated at a local hotel.
The girls were also invited to play three practice games against senior women’s teams from local colleges, before departing for the twin-island republic on August 16.
Jamaica will go up against Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Haiti in the first round of the eight-team tournament, which is scheduled for August 19-26.
