THE 2014 Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Masters Twenty20 competition promises to give fans a treat with two exciting semi-finals at Kensington Cricket Club today.

The first semi-final, which begins at 10:00 am, will see 2012 champions Mico Masters going up against St Thomas Eagles, while defending champions Domtar Sports Club and Wray All-stars will do battle in the feature game at 2:00 pm.

Wray All-stars’ unbeaten run all season places them on a pinnacle going up against the defending champions in what should be a keenly contested encounter, as both teams possess a number of former national representatives and Senior Cup players in their line-up.

Domtar Sports Club, whose only loss came against Mico Masters, will expect a lot from former national opening batsman Delroy Morgan, who still packs a punch with some neat and timely drives. Hard-hitting batsmen Winston Myers, Wayne Cuff and Mark English can rip apart any bowling attack and they are expected to play their part, while Ossie Hope, Donald Bredwood, Dave Harris and English will lead in the bowling department.

However, the Nehemiah Perry-led Wray All-stars batting line-up has proven that they are no fluke, and the former West Indies player along with all-rounders Raymond Ferguson, Terence Corke and John Gordon are expected to play an integral role in both departments. Wayne Sutherland, Dennis Moore, Baldwin Virgo and Victor Forest are also capable of setting things alight.

Meanwhile, Mico Masters, to be led by former national batsman Orville Pennant, Solomon Darby, Calvin McGregor and all-rounder Carl Brissettre, are highly fancied to get the better of St Thomas Eagles in the curtain-raiser.

St Thomas Eagles batting line-up will depend heavily on Timothy Wilson, Mark Penn and Keith Edwards if they are to spring a surprise. Michael Cook, who is the only bowler to take a hat-trick this season, will be the Eagles’ trump card against Mico Masters’ batsmen.
