A woman has been arrested and charged by members of the Fraud Squad after she reportedly stole several motor vehicles from a used car dealership where she was employed.

She has been identified as 55-year-old Hauva Davis, car sales administrator of Cedar Grove in Portmore, St Catherine.

The police alleged that between 2005 and 2014 Davis, who was responsible for logging motor vehicles taken into the company, sold a number of the vehicles and failed to either account for the sales in the company’s records or account for the proceeds of the sales. Allegations are that she advertised some of the vehicles privately, which she then sold to various individuals, including operators of other car dealerships, the police reported.

The matter was reportedly exposed during an audit by the company, after which the Fraud Squad was called in.

Police reported that when certain documents were requested of the employee, she allegedly abandoned her job and left the country.

On Saturday, September 13, Davis was intercepted at the Donald Sangster Airport on a flight entering the island and was arrested.

She was later charged with six counts of larceny of motor vehicles, valued at $6 million, and was offered bail in the sum of $300,000. She is to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on September 24.

The accused is also being investigated in the disappearance of 80 other motor vehicles, valued at more than $80 million.
