Brown’s brace leads Salt Marsh to Trelawny President’s Cup
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — A goal in each half from former national Under-17 Ramone Brown carried Salt Marsh United to the Trelawny Football Association President’s Cup Knockout on Thursday with a 4-1 win over Upsetters FC in the final played at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
Brown, who scored in the 10th and 60th minutes, led Salt Marsh United to their fourth straight title over the last three seasons, as they turned back Upsetters FC, who won the Division One last year and will contest the Major League this season.
Oshane Hunter and Garel Gooden also scored for Salt Marsh United, the Major League champions last year, while Oneil Samuels had pulled one back for Upsetters FC midway the first half.
A late start saw the game being reduced to 80 minutes, and a colour clash after both teams turned up in yellow jerseys also pushed the start back by almost 45 minutes.
Salt Marsh went 2-0 up after 16 minutes with goals from Brown and Hunter and looked set to run away with the game.
Brown looped a header over goalkeeper Jason Esson in the 10th minute before Hunter powered the ball into the top of the goal from close range in the 16th minute to double the lead.
Oneil Samuels finished a good move started by the veteran Ian McAnuff by scoring past goalkeeper Oshane Needham in the 20th minute to cut into the lead.
It was one-sided in the second half as Brown restored Salt Marsh’s two-goal lead in the 60th minute, and substitute Garel Gooden made it 4-1 in the 75th minute.
