Protesting cab drivers bar St Elizabeth MP from leaving his home
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — About 30 cab drivers this morning blocked the main road leading from Mountainside district to Lacovia, St Elizabeth, in the vicinity of the home of MP JC Hutchinson (North West St Elizabeth).
The irate protesters for an extended period barred Hutchinson from leaving his home.
According to Hutchinson, the cab drivers were protesting over the settlement of water in the middle of the main road in the vicinity of the Jamaica Zoo and Hutchinson’s property.
A blocked culvert had been causing water running from the property of the zoo to settle in a damaged section of the roadway.
The group kept up the protest action until they heard from Hutchinson, an Opposition MP.
Heavy equipment was called in to clear the road.
Asked if he was scared of being harmed, Hutchinson said, “They are all my family — well not family. They are all my associates so I wasn’t afraid that’s why I came out and addressed them,” Hutchinson told OBSERVER ONLINE.
