Cop, civilian injured
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A policeman and a civilian yesterday escaped serious injury when a motorist that the cop signalled to stop allegedly disobeyed the order, then lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
A woman claimed that the policeman, in a bid to avoid being hit by the vehicle, jumped on the car’s bonnet and crashed into the windscreen, while a civilian who was nearby received injuries in the incident. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
An alleged eyewitness said the incident happened shortly after 1:00 pm in the vicinity of the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court, adding that the out-of-control vehicle slammed into a kerb wall in front of the courthouse, blowing out one of the front tyres.
Another person who claimed to have witnessed the incident said that the two occupants of the motor car alighted from the vehicle and ran. However, they were chased and held by the police.
