Five in Accountant General Department fraud for court today
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The five people charged in the close to $20million ‘dead claim’ fraud at the Accountant General’s Department are to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court today for bail applications.
They are Accountant General-employee, 35-year-old Julio Parkinson, his sister Meisha, as well as Kemar Lewis, Rameish Watson and Anthony Monroe.
The men are charged with conspiracy to defraud, money laundering and obtaining money by false pretence.
Thirty-two-year-old Meisha, who is employed to a government ministry, has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
A bail application was being made last week Friday but the process was scuttled due to an outstanding statement.
Allegations are that between February and October of this year Parkinson, an accountant technician, acted in concert with the three men to open accounts at Scotiabank branches across the Corporate Area.
Watson it is alleged, created certificates in the names of pensioners who were deceased. Over $19 million paid out to the various fictitious accounts.
They were arrested on Tuesday, October 28.
The charge against Meisha stems from allegations that she allowed men into her brother’s home to remove what police considered evidence, money included.
