PRODUCERS of the Jamaican movie Destiny have secured an global distribution deal for the film’s soundtrack.

Jeremy Whittaker, director and executive producer on the film, and his team, recently returned home following the conclusions of talks at the America Film Market — an industry trade show held in Los Angeles, California.

“We had several offers put to us for the soundtrack, but decided to go with Tuff Gong International,” Whittaker told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.

“I believe this soundtrack is one of the best compilation albums put out in recent times and it definitely can stand on its own legs separate and apart from the film,” he added.

The Destiny soundtrack features work from the film’s main stars Christopher Martin and Karian Sang as well as known Jamaican acts Busy Signal, Tifa, and Spice. Paris-based reggae artiste Bazil as well as Garnett Silk Jr, Montego Bay’s Yahsha, and Angele Smith are also featured on the set.

The project is produced by Clive Hunt with Dwain ‘Wiya’ Campbell as co-producer. Whittaker is credited as executive producer.

Whittaker is well aware of the comparisons which will be made of his film’s soundtrack and that of other Jamaican films such as cult classic The Harder They Come, as well as the driving single Dancehall Queen, from the film of the same name.

“It is about a body of work…it’s the collective that makes it so special. The strength lies in the fact that there is a single for every major territory which we plan to take the film. In Europe, we have that single; for North America, we have Karian’s track; and here in the Caribbean, there are the Jamaican artistes. We will be releasing the singles based on the territories and the album will drop early next year. The general consensus is that it’s a strong album. This is not coming from me, but rather industry folks,” said Whittaker.

Meanwhile, Destiny the film continues to exceed the expectations of the director in Jamaica where in premiered in October .

“I really felt the film would do well here, but what has happened is really great. We have had offers for international distribution from markets as far as India, which we are examining.”

As for theatrical releases, London is the next stop for Destiny. The film should open there by Christmas this year, with North America and other territories in Europe being on the list during 2015.
