Accent clinch Division Two title
ACCENT Marketing Limited pulled through with an exciting 23-21 win over Xerox Limited to capture the Division Two League title by clinching the series 3-2 in the 2014 Business House Basketball Association (BHBA) 3-on-3 competition which came to an end at the National Stadium Basketball Courts last Wednesday.
It was a ding-dong tussle from the outset right down to the last few seconds in which Accent managed to hold off a late burst by Xerox, who wasted many scoring opportunities to get on even terms with their opponents’ slim 22-21 lead with 62 seconds left in the game.
However, the player of Game Five was no doubt William Powell of Accent who was at the helm of everything the winners did well. He scored 14 points, and added 16 rebounds.
Winning coach Sheldon Reid said it was a very good and exciting game as they had to fight all the way to the end to come out with a close win.
“They gave a good fight and this made us well-prepared for this crucial match that would have decided the champions,” Reid said. “It is four years I am with this team and we fought hard for victory.”
Reid said Powell was very outstanding throughout the five-match series, as on many occasions he brought the team either close to win or to win. “Powell really played extremely well throughout the season.
Losing coach Rory Stephens said it was a good game and nobody could have asked for a better final.
“Accent is a good team and I think that both of us could have been, this season, the most exciting teams in the competition from what you have seen throughout the series play-offs,” Stephens said.
Meanwhile, for finishing first and second, Accent and Xerox will move up to the Division One League competition next year.
