LIME Foundation 6k Run/Walk doubles participants for 2nd staging
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The number of participants that turned out for the second staging of the LIME Foundation 6k Run/Walk at Fort Clarence Beach in Portmore, St Catherine, early Sunday, doubled the total that participated in the inaugural staging last year.
The event, dubbed ‘Run for the children’, saw just over 1,500 participants making their way along the route to help raise funds to assist parents of children with cancer at the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston.
So far more than $250,000 has been accumulated from LIME text line. And, although the total amount raised so far is not known, the Foundation is expecting to raise approximately $10 million.
Errol Miller, executive chairman of LIME Foundation expressed sheer delight at the positive response.
“I am very pleased. Of course you would always want more but when you move your location after first year and almost double the participation we have to be grateful,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Holmwood Technical High School students Shanieke Watson and Obrien Frith won the female and male categories, respectively, in the 6k run event, while Paula Sinclair of Ageless Wonders and Rohan Gordon of Eden Fitness topped the female category and male categories, respectively, in the walk event.
