The JOA salutes Olympic Solidarity awardees
The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) continues to provide invaluable support to Jamaica’s athletes, and a recent expression of this was the award of six scholarships to well-deserving athletes who more than likely will qualify for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, a qualifying criterion for the award.
The recipients are Alia Atkinson, Christene Day, Rosemarie Whyte, Kimberly Williams, Hansle Parchment and Kenneth Edwards.
At a recent presentation at the corporate offices of the Jamaica Olympic Association, President Michael Fennell made the announcement and offered congratulations, personally and on behalf of the JOA, to the awardees. Joining him were Secretary General Christopher Samuda, and Honourary Treasurer Compton Rodney, both of whom also applauded the recipients on their achievement.
The scholarships were awarded under the Olympic Solidarity Programme and are for two years. Over the years, through the grant of scholarships and funding under the programme, the JOA has partnered with Olympic Solidarity in assisting and furthering the athletic careers of many of Jamaica’s athletes, as well as in supporting national olympic associations.
