THREE-TIME winner Exco Levi, deejay Kirk Diamond, singjay Mikey Dangerous, singer Steele and deejay Tasha T are the nominees in the Best Reggae Recording of the Year category, for the 2015 Juno Awards.

The Juno is Canada’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards in the United States.

Toronto-based Exco Levi is originally from Manchester. Born Wayne Ford Levi, he won in 2012 and repeated the feat in 2013 and 2014. This year, he is nominated for the song Welcome the King.

This is Diamond’s first Juno nod. The Saskatchewan deejay earned a nomination for Love Inna We Heart which has been number one for the past seven weeks on the Rebel Vibez Canadian Reggae Chart.

“This is my first Juno nomination and it feels great. It’s a really good feeling,” St Catherine-born Diamond told the Jamaica Observer moments after the nominations were announced yesterday.

Deejay Bob Da Builda, who is featured on Love Inna We Heart, said the response to the song has been tremendous and the nomination is not surprising.

“This is a very good feeling. I really can’t explain but this is our second time submitting a song and it has paid off,” he said.

Montreal singjay Mikey Dangerous is nominated for Wake Up. The former Trench Town Comprehensive High School Manning Cup player won the Juno in 2008 for Don’t Go Pretending.

Singer Steele is nominated for Hold On Till I Die, his third call. His previous nominations came in 2004 for Uncorrupted and in 2011 for Woman.

Deejay Tasha T’s nomination came for the album Real Talk.

The reggae category of the Juno Awards was established in 1985.

Reggae fusion band Magic! leads all nominees at this year’s awards with five nominations. The Toronto quartet had 2014’s biggest hit song in Rude which topped the Billboard pop chart for six weeks.

The Juno Awards take place on March 15 at Hamilton’s First Ontario Centre.
