Bringing back ‘Zoom Zoom’
JAMAICAN veteran driver Peter Rae is hosting a fundraising event geared at rebuilding his Mazda RX7 race car affectionately called ‘Zoom Zoom’.
The event dubbed ‘Zoom Zoom: Road to Redemption’ will be held at the Palisadoes Go Kart Track in Kingston, tonight at 8:00 pm. Contribution is $1,000.
Rae was involved in an accident with fellow Jamaican Kevin Jeffrey’s Mitsubishi ‘Evo 8’ while competing in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship in Guyana in November. Rae suffered a broken arm and his vehicle was totalled.
“I am basically hosting the event to raise money to fix Zoom Zoom because I haven’t been able to compete since the accident,” he said.
Patrons will party to the music of Rockwildaz Sound Crew and have the opportunity to win prizes and surprises. Photo ops with Peter Rae and Zoom Zoom will be thrown in for good measure.
A drawing card at Dover Raceway meets, Rae is a top-shelf driver with more than 25 years of experience under his belt.
He has also competed in several Caribbean meets. Rae’s achievement includes being the two-time winner of Cayman Island’s international motor racing events (1997 and 1999), and Dover Raceway’s 2012 Thundersport Champion.
Off the track, he has served as president of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (2007) and president of the Jamaica Karting Association (2010 and 2011).
“When I’m racing, especially internationally, I am doing what I love and not only representing myself but representing my country. Zoom Zoom and I really want to get back to entertaining our fans locally and regionally,” he said.
Tonight’s event is sponsored by Adrenaline Rush Energy Drink, DHL, Epping Oil, Spanish Court Hotel, Myx Moscato, Audigier Vodka, Event Solutions, Skunk Nation, MTF Security, Xsomo, and Black Butterfly Media.
