Jamaican remanded in Guyana on drug trafficking charge
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Akeisha Anderson, a 25-year-old Jamaican hairstylist, was on Wednesday remanded after she appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court in Guyana on trafficking charges.
iNews Guyana reported Wednesday that Anderson pleaded not guilty to the charges, which stated that on February 8 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, she had in her possession 606 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
iNews Guyana further reported that the prosecutor told the court that on February 8, the day Anderson was scheduled to return to Jamaica after arriving there on January 28, she was observed acting suspiciously by a Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) officer at the airport.
She was subsequently searched and the cocaine allegedly found.
The matter is to resume on February 13 at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
