FRIENDSHIP Lane and All-Stars will contest the final of the Lyndhust Park Sports and Cultural Council community football competition at the John Mills All-age School in Kingston tomorrow, starting at 1:00 pm.

The winning team will receive trophies and medals as well as the right to be called 2015 champions. The runner-up team will also get trophies and medals for their effort.

The competition, which started last October with eight teams, was also sponsored by TARA Courier Service limited.

According to the competition’s organiser, Lloyd McLean, the aim of the community-based league is to develop a peaceful and safer neighbourhood for children.

“This area was once plagued with crime and violence and so we have decided that we want to change that status and bring everyone together, and with this competition, we have so far been able cut down on that,” McLean told the Jamaica Observer.

“We have new things in place to educate the youth as they are the future of this country and we must nurture them from a young age. We also have been able to get work for some for people who are unemployed,” he added.

McLean encouraged sponsors to come on board to help change lives.

“We haven’t got much sponsorship but I want surrounding companies to get on board as we are changing lives and building a better community for all.

“However, I must thank the TARA Courier Service for their input towards this league,” he ended.
