New Zealander Jeremy Brockie scored as SuperSport United ended a 19-match unbeaten run by leaders Kaizer Chiefs in the South African Premiership with a 2-0 triumph Tuesday.

Mid-season signing Brockie, a former Australian A League and American Major League Soccer footballer, struck on 49 minutes in northern city Polokwane.

A deep cross evaded the three-man Chiefs defence and the New Zealand striker nodded past goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo at the far post.

Weary from his box-to-box role, Brockie retired smiling after 65 minutes and Togolese replacement Dove Wome sealed success a minute into stoppage time.

Once again a cross from the right proved the undoing of Chiefs as Wome held off a defender to fire past Khuzwayo at his near post.

Chiefs, who started the game with 14 victories and five draws in the Premiership this season, were left to rue squandering a golden chance to level five minutes from time.

SuperSport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, wearing a facial mask to protect a fractured cheekbone sustained last December, failed to grasp a hard shot from defender Eric Mathoho.

But as striker Bernard Parker moved in for the kill, Williams atoned by parrying a close-range shot away for a corner.

“We gave a fantastic performance,” boasted SuperSport coach Gordon Igesund. “I told my players at half-time to stop showing Chiefs so much respect because we were better than them.”

Chiefs’ England-born coach Stuart Baxter was baffled how his team lost to a side seven places and 23 points below them at the kick-off.

“We dominated only to concede a silly first goal and miss chances. I was more pleased with this display than our CAF Champions League victory over Township Rollers at the weekend.”

Despite dropping five points in two matches since the league resumed after a six-week break, Chiefs are 10 points clear of second-place Wits with 10 rounds left.

A brace from Dutch defender Kees Kwakman earned Wits a 2-0 away victory over lowly Moroka Swallows in Soweto.
