MAY PEN, Clarendon — Humble Lion coach Donovan Duckie is hoping his players will not yield to the seductive lure of complacency as they look to extend their unbeaten run to 12 games when they play away to Boys’ Town in the third round of the Red Stripe Premier League today.

The Clarendon side, undergoing an amazing transformation since Duckie took charge in December, will take on the struggling ‘Red Brigade’ at Collie Smith Drive knowing that a win will also keep them in a good position for a topfour finish.

Yet there is an argument — and even Duckie buys into it — that most of the teams in this country tend to take too much satisfaction, way too early, once they have managed to put together a remarkable sequence of results.

“It will be challenging for us because it’s kind of a trend,” reasoned Duckie. “Anytime a team in Jamaica goes on a good run — and you even see it on the international stage sometimes — they tend to relax, which makes it difficult to maintain the momentum.

“Even though they are grown men, (the players) are also human beings, so we have to try and keep them honest by constantly reminding them about the project.”

Under Duckie’s guidance, Humble Lion have gone from bottom of the table to semi-final contenders after earning 27 of a possible 33 points in their last 11 games.

They are now tied on 35 points with Tivoli Gardens, but are ahead of the West Kingston side in fourth, courtesy of a better goal difference. “We have a lot of confidence and commitment in the project,” said Duckie.

“We are on a very good run at the moment and it is important for us to maintain this form. Because the fans support us; they love their football so we have to try and do it for them. “We know it will be difficult, but we will also make it difficult for others to beat us.”
