Hot Line Stakes headlines nine-race Ash Wednesday card
THE Hot Line Stakes will headline a two-trophy nine-race Ash Wednesday midweek card at Caymanas Park today.
A Restricted Allowance II call for native-bred three-year-old (NW2) fillies going 1,200 metres for a purse of $900,000 has attracted a field of nine headlined by the Gary Subratie-conditioned Dreamcometrue.
The Ash Wednesday Trophy call among Overnight Allowance horses (three-year-old and upward) going 1,300 metres for a purse of $715,000 will also boast a competitive field of runners to be just as competitive as is the Hot Line Stakes.
All Correct, a tough campaigner in both the Overnight and Open Allowance company, is among the front-runners for parity. Trained by Wayne DaCosta for the Velvet Glove, the six-year-old dark gelded son of Storm Craft has worked industriously for the race and is expected to be coming at them in deep stretch for his pound of flesh in the maximum field of 16. Shane Ellis will ride.
In the Hot Line Stakes, Dreamcometrue, bay filly by Deputy Glitters finished a useful 2 1/2 lengths second in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stake behind winner Alacran after being in stride at the off. However she has trained well for her second outing and with nothing as endearing as Alacran present Dreamcometrue is expected to go all the way even in the presence of stablemate Waheed Najmah who was an 8 1/2 winner over the howling favourite Kronus, on debut running over today’s distance.
Both runners have worked well coming into the race, but with the connections calling for the champion jockey Dane Nelson to partner Dreamcometrue an all-out effort is anticipated. Aaron Chatrie who was aboard both runners on their debut will remain atop Waheed Najmah.
