Cavalier blank struggling Reno for third-straight win
CAVALIER SC beat Reno FC 2-0 in a Red Stripe Premier League game at Stadium East on Wednesday.
Oshane Jenkins and Girvan Brown scored a goal in each half, respectively, to give Cavalier their third consecutive win, but who still remain in eighth position in the standings on 33 points.
Reno, the struggling former champions of the nation’s top league, were losing for the second time in their last three games and looked less than premiership quality. With the loss, the Westmoreland-based Reno (22 points) continue to share cellar positions of the 12-team championship with Barbican (21 points).
Both Reno and Barbican are the promoted teams from last season.
The consecutive wins for Cavalier have brought joy to the heart of Cavalier club president Rudolph Speid.
“Earlier, the results that we were getting were not in keeping with our play pattern… so it is nice to see the team getting some positive results and being rewarded with three consecutive wins,” he said.
Reno coach Wendell Downswell remains hopeful despite his team’s obvious predicament. “All is not lost. Despite today’s loss, we continue to be hopeful that we can turn the poor form around and get ourselves out of this rut,” he said.
