Battle lines drawn as Mico ‘B’, JAMALCO hunt Open League title
MICO ‘B’ will challenge many-time champions JAMALCO in the 2015 Netball Jamaica/Jamaica National Building Society Sunshine Open League final this afternoon at the St Andrew School for Girls, beginning at 5:30.
Both teams reached today’s final by registering wins in the semi-finals last Thursday evening. Mico ‘B’ defeated defending champions University of the West Indies Pelicans 26-22, while JAMALCO cruised past Cablepro 29-16.
Mico ‘B’ will be looking for their first Open League triumph, while JAMALCO is going for their 10th lien. Both teams are unbeaten in the competition, but that will change today.
Janet Guy, coach of Mico ‘B’, was pleased with the team’s semi-final effort.
“The team played to instructions not to allow our opponents to take charge, as it was very important for us to win the semi-finals and into the final.
“Having passed that hurdle, we have one more step remaining and we are looking forward to come out winners. But it is not expected to be an easy task,” she said.
JAMALCO coach Winston Nevers says his girls need to improve on some aspects of their game if they hope to lift the trophy.
“We need to concentrate more and also keep more possession of the ball in order to lift our game right from the start,” he said.
Meanwhile, the consolation knockout final will be played between Molynes United ‘A’ and Blades United ‘A’, starting at 4:30 pm.
