JPS employee charged for corrupt practices
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Public Service says one of its employees has been arrested and charged following a lengthy investigation into alleged corrupt practices of meter tampering involving business customers.
JPS said this comes as part of its zero tolerance stance against corruption within the company.
The JPS stated that in 2014, four employees and two contractors were dismissed from the company along with four former contractors being arrested.
“While we are confident that the majority of employees are honest individuals doing the right thing, we must continue to take a stand against corruption, in every corner, internally and externally. We are committed to making 2015 the year when we finally conquer the theft of service that undermines the energy future of Jamaica,” said Kelly Tomblin, president and CEO of JPS.
She urged members of the public to report cases of corruption that are known to them and reminded JPS employees to reject any offer to get involved in corrupt activities.
