Manchester woman to answer to fraud charges
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Manchester woman is to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 23, to answer to fraud-related charges.
She is 44-year-old Dian Banton of Mandeville in the parish.
Banton was charged with obtaining money by false pretence by detectives from the Area One Fraud Squad on Monday, February 16.
The charges stem from an allegation that between February and May 2009, she made an application to the Accountant General’s Department for pension benefits amounting to approximately J$830,000 on a pensioner’s behalf.
The scheme was discovered when the pensioner went to collect the benefits and was told they had already been collected. A report was subsequently made and a probe launched.
