Jacques Harvey switches allegiance to Turkey

JACQUES Montgomery Harvey, the 2011 World University Games 100m gold medallist, has transferred his allegiance from Jamaica to Turkey and will be eligible to compete for that country as of July 25 this year.

The 25-year-old Harvey, who also represented Wolmer’s Boys’ and Rusea’s High at the ISSA Boys’ Championships, could line up in the colours of the country that straddles the Asian and European continents at the IAAF World Championships in China in August.

The switch was published on the International Associations of Athletics Federation (IAAF) website yesterday.

The former UTech runner, who also had a name change and will be known as Jak Ali Harvey, also trained with the Stephen Francis-led MVP Track Club.

He, however, switched camps about three years ago and moved to an American-based group.

The Hanover-born runner has personal best times of 10.04 seconds in the 100m set in August 2013 in Ankara, Turkey, and 20.44 seconds for the 200m that he set in July 2013 in Kortrijk, Belgium.
