Guyana-born Disc Jockey/producer DJ Xplicit has worked with popular reggae acts including T.O.K., Laza Morgan and Red Fox.

As a DJ, he has spun the hottest dancehall/reggae songs at Sirius XM as well as AListRadio, major outlets for pop, hip hop and Rhythm and Blues.

DJ Xplicit (real name Vick Kissoon) is getting ready to release his most ambitious project to date, a ‘riddim’ called Love Breeze.

The beat — which will be released March 10 — has songs by Gyptian (Driver), Laza Morgan (Wine Your Body) Red Fox (Gyal Settings).

The 30-year-old moved to New York at age 10 and got involved in music early in his teens.

“I started as a DJ at the age of 14 after my cousin gave me his Technics 1200 MK II. I had crates of records (12 Inch and 45’s) and became known as the DJ that played reggae music. I started working with various Jamaican artistes, producers and engineers’, DJ Xplicit explained.

After completing studies at Benjamin Cardozo High School, he studied music technology at Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development (New York University) and decided on a career in music.

At 15, he got into music production.

“I was involved with a few projects but never got any credit for my work. So I linked with (producer) Tony Kelly and worked on my first official single with Junior Reid and rapper Cassidy but it was never cleared by the record label. After that I produced the Missionary riddim, which featured T.O.K, Richie Loop, Red Fox, Chris Marsh, Shifta and Singing Sweet,” DJ Xplicit explained.

It was his radio time that earned him much-needed exposure.

“It was difficult at first because they didn’t know who I was, but being on Sirius XM and AListRadio opened doors that allowed me to build connections with everyone I’m working with,” he said.

Guyana has produced its share of quality musicians, singers Eddy Grant and Natural Black the best known to Jamaicans.

DJ Xplicit commented on what sets him apart from his competition.

“I believe my individual style, passion and strong musical background differentiates my taste in music. Being a DJ gives me the ability to hear something and know right away if it’s a hit or miss,” he said. “My plan is to combine great Caribbean music with various genes. This has been my goal from the first day I started remixing.”
