Five accused granted bail in multimillion-dollar theft in T&T
PORT OF SPAIN, (CMC) – Five people, including a pregnant woman, will re-appear in court on April 2 after they were charged in connection with the multimillion-dollar theft from a pawn store here last month.
The five – Melissa Evans, her common-law husband Javon Cudjoe, his brother, Jude Cudjoe, Anthony Montano and Vishnu Latchman – were granted bail totalling TT$14 million (One TT dollar =US$0.16 cents).
They are accused of stealing more than TT$23 million in jewellery and items from M&M Pawn Shop in the capital during the weekend of February 21-23.
The charges were laid indictably and they were not called to plead when they appeared before Magistrate Cheron Raphael on Thursday.
The magistrate ordered that they surrender all travel documents and report to the police stations in Belmont and Besson Street Monday to Friday.
