BRITJAM Spring Break Festival
ORGANISERS say they are expecting more than 15,000 revellers at this year’s staging.
The annual event, kicks off at the Whitter Village in Ironshore, Montego Bay, on Wednesday night with Spring Rave. The festival ends on March 17.
The seven fun-filled day-and-night event — which has Red Stripe as its title sponsor — features a raft of parties and festivities across the western city, and will showcase a slew of local and international acts.
“The 2015 staging of the fabulous BritJam Spring Break festival will be the biggest one to date, all the who’s who in entertainment will be migrating to the beautiful second city to revel with the British, Japanese and other revellers from across the world along with the warm-spirited Montegonians ,” Anneke Taylor, BritJams’ event coordinator, told the Jamaica Observer.
Started in March 2010, the festival has blossomed into a calendar while it contributes to boosting the local economy.
Taylor said with the efforts of Team BritJam and Japan’s Jahjastarz Entertainment, its nationals have got a taste of the British-Jamaican cultural infusion and are eagerly awaiting the commencement of this year’s festival.
Included in the line-up is deejay twin Ackee & Saltfish, who have embraced the Jamaican culture, music, cuisine and language. Rio King Life Star, a popular Japanese disc jock, is also billed to perform at several parties.
“Having them on-board not only enhances the BritJam product, but also aids in pushing Brand Jamaica,” Taylor argued.
Other international talents expected are Iron Heart Sound from New York, English Fire, DJ Face, King Tubby’s Cold Steps and several British acts.
The local acts include Beenie Man, I-Octane, Konshens, G-Whizz, Popcaan, Aidonia, Chi Ching Ching, Spice, Tifa, D’Angel, Ity and Fancy Cat, and Beatle Bailey.
