JN General Insurance finally settles claim
Dear Claudienne,
On April 22, 2013, my 2008 Toyota RAV 4 motor vehicle was hit by a Ford truck while exiting the Rock Bridge in Falmouth, Trelawny. The truck driver did not wait for me to clear the bridge before entering, and therefore hit the rear of my vehicle, causing extensive damage. A police sergeant who was first on the scene marked the position of the tyres and told me that I had nothing to worry about, as the driver of the truck was definitely wrong.
I went to the Falmouth Police Station and made a report. I was later given a report by the police to take to my insurance company, JN General Insurance. My insurance company sent a claim to Guardian General Insurance Co. Ltd. (Ameco Caribbean/Desnoes & Geddes Ltd.) that the truck driver was insured with.
I heard nothing from JN General Insurance for more than a year, so I went back to their Montego Bay office in December 2014. I was given a new set of the same documents to deliver to the Guardian General Office at Fairview Mall , in Montego Bay. The agent who took the papers told me that he would look into the situation.
However, I have not heard from him since.
The amount on the claim submitted by my insurance company is for $105,000.00.
I would appreciate your help in getting my claim processed, as this is well overdue.

Dear HW
Tell Claudienne contacted the JN General Insurance claims manager at the head office in Kingston on February 12 with regard to your claim, and was promised a response in short order.
On March 3 we were informed that JN General Insurance and Guardian General Insurance Company had arrived at a settlement of your claim. We note that your insurance company has advised you of the settlement.
JN Insurance told us that you have agreed to go to the Guardian office in Montego Bay to sign the release for the claim in the amount of $121,897.43.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne,
I submitted a National Insurance Scheme (NIS) pension claim on September 7, 2011, nine months after my retirement date.
Approximately a year later, I started receiving a pension for which I was grateful. However, when I compared my benefit with the pension that some of my fellow co-workers were receiving from the NIS I realised that I had been short-changed. Persons I knew with fewer years of service than me, and who received less salary, were getting a bigger NIS benefit than I got.
When I went to the NIS office to make enquiries, I discovered that during the calculation of my pension benefit 23 years of my contributions were omitted.
They gave me a letter to take to the relevant ministry and the additional years were included. I took the letter to the NIS office at 4 National Heroes Circle and was told that a reclassification would have to be done.
Since then I have been to the office on numerous occasions, only to be told that the officer who is dealing with it has my file.
I have been waiting indefinitely, so could you please investigate this matter for me.
I am desperate because my mortgage is in arrears.
Thanks for your compassion.

Dear FB
We spoke to the NIS office and your claim was expedited. The NIS office told Tell Claudienne that as a result of the miscalculation, you were being paid a half-rate pension of $3,784.84 fortnightly. Your full pension will be $7,880. 24 fortnightly. However, the NIS spokesperson said that because you currently have a pension book that finishes in May, you will not receive the full pension until you get the new book in June 2015. You will also receive the retroactive pension money owed to you for the period December 6, 2010 to May 27, 2015.
Good luck.
