Tress Relief

Intuit Concepts, which conceptualised the acclaimed JN Wedding Spectacular, once again created a winning wedding extravaganza – the true bridal playground. On show were hairstyling booths which featured local and international hairstylists doing what they do best: mane-tenance. Award-winning celebrity stylist Ronald Calder flew in from New York City to slick back ponytails and mould mohawks alongside Salon Innovations’ CEO Kerri Spencer. With both experts on hand to display their interpretations of bridal coiffure, there’s no telling what dreams will become reality for the make-believe brides. Your Under The Dryer glam team shares lessons in Hairstyling 101.

Sagicor Investments Jamaica Limited’s Fixed Income Trading Manager Keri-Leigh Manning requested a little trimming to snag the Push-Wave Pixie look.

Here’s how Spencer did the ‘do:

The Push-Wave Pixie

1 Start by shampooing the hair, using Morfose Keratin Fusion shampoo and Keratin Infusion Conditioner.

2 Set hair overnight by applying the Morfose Keratin Fusion serum to wrap hair and smooth strands.

*TIP: Hair is wrapped with a mousse to keep it moist until it is ready to be styled.

3 After unravelling, use a 1/4″ barrel curling iron to create soft curls at the fade.

4 Follow by using a 1″ barrel curling iron to create sophisticated curls with bounce and body.

5 Curl hair upward from the roots then sweep to create the soft wave patterns.

6 Finish by styling in a push-wave pattern.

Sagicor Investments Jamaica Limited’s Fixed Income Securities Manager Sara Ying-Henriques decided to keep it sleek and shine in a side ponytail Curly Locks ‘do.

Here’s how Spencer did the ‘do:

The Curly Locks Side Ponytail

1 Start by shampooing the hair, using Morfose Keratin Fusion shampoo and Keratin Infusion Conditioner.

2 Set hair overnight by applying the Morfose Keratin Fusion serum to wrap hair and smooth strands.

3 Let your hair down, apply Morfose Argan Oil to protect those luscious strands from heat damage.

4 To achieve the soft, lustrous curls, use a 11/2″ barrel curling iron to curl hair in your desired curl pattern.

5 Use a scrunchie to secure ponytail to the side.

6 Using your hands, style hair to create a barrel curl.

Hairstyles via Ronald Calder

Meanwhile, celebrity stylist Ronald Calder dipped into his bag of wefts to create the perfect High Ponytail Bun for Desiree Graham; the Braided Pin-Up ‘do for Tedeca Douglas; and the Afro-Mohawk look for Artena Wilson, showcasing what he calls the “natural era”.

Products You Will Need:

– Pump it Up! Gold Styling spritz

– Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray

– Keracare oil sheen

– hairpins

– 2 packs of 20″ long synthetic hair in a texture of your choice

Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray

The High Ponytail Bun

1 Start by shampooing hair with a product of your choice.

2 Blow-dry hair from roots to tips.

3 Install your 20″ of synthetic hair.

4 Apply Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to sections of the hair.

5 Make a centre part from the forehead and create an underhanded fishtail braid to the crown.

6 Secure rope twist and undone hair in a high ponytail.

7 Plait hair straight to the ends.

8 Hold braid about 3″ over the head and wrap from the base of the ponytail upwards until the braid is secure.

9 Ensure the look is tidy by using bobby pins along with your Pump it Up! Gold Styling spritz.

The Braided Pin-Up

1 Start by shampooing hair with a product of your choice.

2 Blow-dry hair from roots to tips.

3 Install your 20″ of synthetic hair for volume and length.

4 Apply Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to all sections of the hair.

5 Twist sections of the hair.

6 Pull sections of the hair from the nape of the neck into a coif and secure with bobby pins.

*TIP: You get to style your hair in many ways with this look. Have fun and be fearless.

The Afro-Mohawk

1 Start by shampooing hair with a product of your choice.

2 Blow-dry hair from roots to tips.

3 Install your 20″ of synthetic hair for volume and length.

4 Apply Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to all sections of the hair.

5 Section hair down the centre.

6 Braid the lower sections of the hair from root to tips.

7 Pull braided sections and wrap in a coil pattern, then secure with bobby pins.

8 Continue with Step 6 until you’ve reached the crown.

9 Wrap sections of the hair at the fore in a circular freehand pattern, followed by securing with bobby pins.

The Warrior Princess Coif

1 Start by shampooing hair with a product of your choice.

2 Blow-dry hair from roots to tips.

3 Install your 20″ of synthetic hair for volume and length.

4 Apply Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to all sections of the hair.

5 Pull from the sides and back of hair to create a ponytail.

6 Pull hair at the crown upwards then under into a coif.

7 With the leave-outs make a small braid, and secure it with a bobby pin just above the ponytail to add dimension.

8 Pull synthetic hair forward to cover the ponytail and underpin sections to the hair underneath the layer of ponytail.

Runway Tresses

Some of the runway’s most sought-after designers took to the Milan catwalks for their Fall/Winter 2015 Ready-To-Wear presentations. Hair was the buzzword as fashionistas paid much attention to detail by showcasing their interpretations of this season’s hair trends. Your Under The Dryer style team shares the runway prowess.

Bottega Veneta

Designer Tomas Maier upped the glam factor for his models at his label’s 2015 Fall/Winter Ready-To-Wear fashion show in Milan last Saturday. Maier shares his clear-cut hair interpretation on the ginger-blonde Edie Campbell and it’s clear that the centre-parted wave trend is here to stay, if only for another season.

Gucci

Gucci’s new designer Alessandro Michele makes his purpose known with a fab runway show and equally fab hair. This year’s fall/winter season is all about bohemian waves and we have Michele to thank.

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce stood true to their romantic chignon jewel-accessorised look for their Fall 2015 Ready-To-Wear runway. Rock model Tami Williams graced the catwalk for the label’s ‘Ode to mamma’ presentations.

Prada

It could be said that Prada took style notes from Dolce & Gabbana by adding oversized statement pin accessories, but what is certain is that the designers made the look their own by moulding a complementing ponytail updo. Not only did the label’s head designer Miuccia Prada opt for ponytails, but she also found ways to flare even a low-cut Afro ‘do. This off-kilter take on the traditional high ponytail left the audience wanting more. We’ll just have to wait for the Spring/Summer 2016 presentations.

Jonathan Saunders

Trending on the Jonathan Saunders catwalks were 70s-inspired tunics, bright colours, leather accessories, cowling turtlenecks and three-dimensional ponytail looks. So it was a tad surprising that Saunders traded the expected chic ‘do and went full-throttle with edgy, half-shaved-half-up-in-a-ponytail hairdos.
