St James FA/Sandals/ATL league heats up
ROSE HALL, St James – CLUB Stars could join Faulkland FC as leaders of the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Division One competition today, when they take on last-placed Westgreen FC at Hilton, Rose Hall, starting at 3:30 pm.
Faulkland FC scored a big 5-1 win over Irwin on Monday to take over the lead with 10 points, but a win for Club Stars today would see them also go to 10 points and overtake Copperwood FC, who are on eight points.
Also today, Mountain Villa travel to face Granville City and Somerton FC take on Salt Spring Roses at the UDC field.
Club Stars have got off to a quick start, scoring 10 goals in three games, second best only to Faulkland’s 17 in four games, while Westgreen FC have lost all three games to sit at the foot of the tables.
Westgreen FC, however, won their first-round game against Copperwood FC in the Captain’s Bakery and Grill KO last week, and this could inspire them to start winning in the Division One.
Terrick Dixon has scored four of Club Stars’ goals and will once again lead the attack along with Reno Edmonson and Troy Lewis, who both have two each.
Mountain Villa will also be looking to move up in the standings from fifth place and could take over third place with a win over Granville City, who are on one point.
Somerton FC are coming off their first win since being promoted and are hoping to win back-to-back games at the expense of Salt Spring Roses, who are a point behind them in the tables.
On Monday, Faulkland FC hammered Irwin FC, scoring five straight times after conceding a 12th-minute goal.
Copperwood FC and Seaview FC scored 2-0 wins over Revelation FC and Paradise FC respectively, as well.
At Jarrett Park, Calwayne Allen converted a penalty to give Irwin the lead, but Rushayne Bull scored the first of his double to level the scores at 1-1 in the 26th minute.
Faulkland FC took over the lead early in the second half when Gary Taylor scored in the 51st minute, then Bull made it 3-1 two minutes later when he scored his second in the 53rd minute.
Jason Malcolm, in the 75th and Brian Barker in the 83rd, also scored for Faulkland FC.
Meanwhile, Revelation FC lost for the first time this season as goals from Omar McNeil in the 11th minute and Rayon Campbell in the 14th minute were enough to give Copperwood FC their second win.
And Seaview FC picked up their second win by beating winless Paradise FC with goals from Clive Fuller in the 15th minute and Oneil Grizzle in the 81st minute.
