A ‘classic’ turnout
THE New Year continues to be a bountiful one for the Jamaica Classic Car Club (JCCC) as their third meet for the year at Hope Gardens, St Andrew, brought out classic car owners and aficionados in their high numbers.
“It was a very good meet. We had a lot of people passing through as usual,” Shane Angus, JCCC president, told Auto.
With members from as far as Ocho Rios and Mandeville joining their Kingston brethren at the location, by late afternoon there was plenty to admire.
“We had in excess of thirty cars,” Angus said.
Along with the numbers was the sheer variety, drawing attention from the visitors to the gardens and proving that not all classics are old. Under Angus’s leadership, the JCCC has embraced a wider view of what is termed a classic in order to reach a younger demographic. Nestled between the regular Euro-centric cars like Minis, MGs, BMWs, VWs, Mercedes-Benzs and Jaguars were Japanese performance icons such as the ultra-rare Mitsubishi 3000GT. Not to be outgunned, the Euro-lovers responded with a few gems of their own with a Porsche 930, a VW Golf R32, and the unicorn that is the second-generation Audi B5 S4 Quattro.
“We had some new members come out, one with a HUMMER and another with a Vauxhall Viva Firenza,” he continued.
Angus hopes the energy the club is showing so far will continue to their next meet in Mandeville on April 12. The JCCC will elect its new administration on April 26.
