Spot Valley edge Muschett in basketball
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Spot Valley High edged former champions Muschett High by two points (34-32) as the first round of the ISSA Western Conference girls’ basketball competition came to an end on Friday.
Nassan Ricketts and Lanasha Smith combined for 32 of Spot Valley High’s points, as they improved to five points and in second place to defending champions Mt Alvernia High (six points) after winning all three first-round games.
Muschett are on four points, with Holland High on three points.
Spot Valley led 6-5 after the first quarter and 20-16 at half-time before Muschett cut the deficit to one point at the end of the third quarter, 26-25.
Spot Valley, however, held on to win by two points with Ricketts leading the way with 18 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots, while Smith had 14 points and three assists.
Sashanel Smalling was the top scorer for Muschett High with 12 points, while Michelle Casey scored 10 points and had four rebounds and four assists.
