Kemar ‘Taxi’ Lawrence journeys to New York Red Bulls
Harbour View Football Club and New York Red Bulls have reached an agreement to sign the attacking 22-year-old Reggae Boy left back Kemar ‘Taxi’ Lawrence after a two-week trial, his local club announced yesterday.
The deal was professionally coordinated by Global Premier Management FIFA agent, and former Reggae Boy Damani Ralph, as well as the kind facilitation of Major League Soccer.
The New York Red Bulls opened their season last week with a 1-1 away tie to Sporting KC, and next Sunday they play at home against DC United.
Winning the Premier League, both knockout competitions, contesting the CFU Club Championships, and becoming a regular member of the Reggae Boyz squad are but a few of the high notes Lawrence had hit at Harbour View FC.
Lawrence, son of former Jamaican goalkeeping great Orville Edwards, expressed his appreciation to the deal after passing his medical, International Transfer Certificate clearance and work visa processing.
“It is a step in the right direction, and thanks to all my teammates, coaches, club, agent, family and friends. It was possible because they stuck around and kept their prayers going day after day, saying that there is gonna be a breakthrough. I always say that my dreams are bigger than the environment I am in, so now that I am in a new environment, I have got to prove that my dreams are still bigger. I am really thankful and I always end by saying, my God lives and I believe He’s gonna take me places beyond my wildest imagination.”
Lawrence joins fellow Reggae Boy Dane Richards, who recently returned to the MLS after a few seasons away in Europe.
