THE excitement around the Guinness Street Football challenge has been building and on Sunday the team moved into the parish of Westmoreland for the second leg of the campaign.

A total of 13 teams came out to battle at the Llandilo Community Centre.

The teams brought their ‘A’ game and played exceptional street football, displaying great skill and sportsmanship. A large crowd gathered to cheer on their favourites and were not deterred by the shower of rain, as the matches went on regardless.

When all was said and done Smokaz FC came out undefeated, winning the parish finals 1-0. The members of the winning team were Brendon Antonie, George Leslie, Antonio Simpson, Conard Facey, and Christopher Lawrence.

The Golden Boot Award was shared between Tajay Watson of Dread Team and Junior Gayle of Grange Hill Alliance, who scored a total of three goals each.

“The games are picking up and people are getting more and more excited about the Guinness Street Football Challenge. We realise that the teams are taking their matches seriously and we are grateful for the support that we have received from the community members who come out each week in support of their respective teams,” said Andrew Anguin, acting brand manager at Guinness at last Sunday’s Guinness Street Football.

As Guinness Street Football moves into the third week of the football challenge, the anticipation for the next parish finals heats up. Be on the lookout as on March 29 they might just be coming to your parish, so rally up your team and get ready to play some ball.
