Blessing the oppressed
SINGER Bless 1 offers a message of peace, love and unity on his latest single Who’s Gonna Care. The Boston-based entertainer, who is from Montego Bay, teamed with Heart of a Lion Records to produce his latest effort which takes aim at what he sees as global injustice.
“The story behind the song is based on a lot of injustice that has been going on towards our people and no one seems to care. Government and politicians turn a blind eye to the poor and all the cops brutalising and killing our people and getting away with it,” Bless 1 explained. “The killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida, Mike Brown in Ferguson, genocide in Africa and all those voices that have not been heard.”
Bless 1 (real name Marlon Cunningham) migrated to the United States 10 years ago.
Among his more popular songs are Heart of a Lion, Never Go Away and No Bush Just Roots.
Influenced by Sizzla, Garnet Silk, Jah Cure and Buju Banton, Bless 1 made his recording debut in 2006 with Sexy Lady for Hit Quarters Entertainment, a Boston label.
