Drag launch tonight
THE National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) will launch the 2015 Nestlé Supligen Drag Racing Series this Friday night at South Beach Café in St Andrew, starting at 8:00 p.m.
Last year, the series began with an exciting drag display in the centre of New Kingston on Knutsford Boulevard and the NDRC hoped to replicate that, but they were unable to do so this year.
“Subsequent to all necessary permissions being received, a third party lodged an objection resulting in the withdrawal of same. As a result we have had to alter the format and venue of the launch activity,” Stephen Gunter, NDRC executive member, told Auto.
Instead of the thrill of seeing high-horsepower drag cars up close through the heart of Kingston’s business district, the launch will be curtailed to suit its current venue and concentrate on its strengths there.
“The proceedings have been cut by 30 minutes to allow a mini-car show from our various racers and an after-party, which South Beach Café can facilitate,” he explained.
Gunter kept the secrets for the 2015 drag season close to his chest, opting instead for the press conference this Friday to reveal all. The first meet of the 2015 Nestlé Supligen Drag Racing Series is scheduled for Sunday, March 29.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused due to circumstances beyond our control.”
