LIME title sponsors of MyLocker
IN keeping with its goal to use technology to meet people’s educational needs, telecommunication firm LIME has invested $350,000 in MyLocker — an interactive, video-based learning platform delivered to subscribers over the Internet.
MyLocker is an initiative of One-on-One Educational Services, known for providing personalised educational services through its flagship ‘Class-of-10’ mentorship programme and e-learning solutions for students at the secondary level.
LIME, now the title sponsors of the platform, also supplied Internet-enabled handsets to MyLocker. The partnership is supported by the Ministry of Education and was launched on Monday, March 2, 2015.
“With LIME Mobile Internet and the Telco’s recently acquired Dekal Super WiFi technology, MyLocker lessons will reach more people in more places across Jamaica. The major plus of this partnership is the delivery of lessons to students wherever they are located and regardless of the type of devices they are using, hereby expanding opportunities for life-long learning and laying the groundwork for success at examinations,” the company said.
Enthusiastic about the tremendous scholastic prospects, Carlo Redwood, LIME VP of marketing, expressed that the company will continue to use its technology investments to meet the expanding needs of the population. He singled out education as one of those top priorities to LIME and the growing number of subscribers it serves.
“The MyLocker e-learning platform enhances the educational experience of the nation’s students and makes learning more interactive. We are very aware that the future of education is virtual, and so through projects such as this, we hope to help create avenues of opportunity for the delivery of basic and advanced learning to more people in more places,” Redwood said.
The LIME/DEKAL partnership will again be put to work to deliver on its commitment to expand rural Internet connectivity and is designed to make the technology more available, more accessible and more affordable for people using the service.
LIME has already spent close to US$70 million of the US$250 million Project Marlin network expansion and upgrade to bolster its mobile network and deliver Superfast 4G speeds.
Through the LIME Foundation, the Telco also provides over 400 primary schools in urban and rural Jamaica with free access to the Internet. The company’s philanthropic arm has a long-sstanding partnership with the Universal Access Fund for the establishment of Community Access Points in more rural areas to connect people to services like MyLocker at no charge. These initiatives, in association with the Government of Jamaica, is part of LIME’s overall goal for Jamaica to achieve 100 per cent broadband penetration within the shortest possible time.
